The website that I have decided to evaluate is a business advice and marketing company called Jenkinson & Associates Ltd. This company is a business consultant firm, which means that they give advice to other business on things like finance, business strategies, website design and marketing in order to try and improve a business in terms of size and turnover.

The website itself, www.jenkinsonassoc.co.uk, does appear to get across all the information intended to however after analysing the website I believe there are a few weaknesses that could easily be improved:

The initial weakness that I realised as soon as I entered the site was the dull, lifeless colours that are used throughout the site. I understand that due to the nature and purpose of the site, a variety of bright bold colours would not be appropriate, however the colours used make the site look boring and I believe that a different selection of colours could make the site look a lot more attractive.

Another weakness that I realised on this site was that only some of the pages had a ‘links’ bar at the bottom that allowed you to easily jump to selected pages. For example the Home page has a link bar, however the Contact and Testimonial page do not have this link bar showing an inconsistency in the site.

A third weakness that I noticed in the site was that none of the hyperlinks to other pages had screen tips added to them to show a message as you hovered over the text with your arrow, I think that this small improvement to the website would make it look a lot more professional. Also on for example the home page, most of the underlined words are links to other pages apart from a few that are used as headings, however I think this is quite confusing as you almost expect the headings to be links as well, therefore I think to improve this weakness, the headings should remain in bold, but instead of underlined, they could possibly be in a larger font.

Although this website has too much text all displayed in each page and is not broken up by any business related images, I still think that one of the strengths of the site is the use of bold and underlined text throughout:

The website uses a lot of important words in bold to make them stand out in the text and therefore break up any large paragraphs. It also uses headings and quotes well to separate each paragraph on the different pages which makes the large amounts of reading easier, and more manageable.

One task that I attempted on the site that didn’t go well, was when I clicked on the ‘Clients’ link along the top bar, it in fact goes to a page that simply shows all the news about the business since 2006. it shows that it is a bad link as at the bottom of the Home page there is a link to ‘Latest News’ which goes to the same page.

Micro blogging is a communication process in which users can post short messages (around 140 characters max.) for others to read and respond to if they wish. Twitter is currently the most popular Micro-blogging website; however there are a lot of other popular websites that provide the same blogging service.

Even though there is a limitation to the amount of words used in a blog, it does not limit the blog itself in terms of delivering information to others. This is done by creating links to other websites or documents that are related to the topic of your blog post.

Micro-blogging is also useful in a learning environment; it allows you to follow links to relevant and useful sources posted by teachers or other class-members. You could also gather a lot of feedback on a poll you have posted that is needed for a subject.
